What do I do if my child forgets something at home and I need to drop it off at school?

Our system simplifies item drop-off without interrupting your child’s instructional time. In the front foyer, you will see organized bins/drawers that are labeled by grade level. Please deposit your child’s belongings into the drawer. Bins will be checked by grade levels during the day and your child will receive his/her belongings in a timely manner.

What do I do if my child is absent or needs to leave the school for a doctor’s appointment?

The school day is 8AM-3:20PM. We teach bell-to-bell and savor every minute of instructional time with our students! If your child is unable to attend class, please send a note to school and have your child deliver it to his/her homeroom teacher upon return. We will handle it from there! When scheduling appointments, please remember many of our lessons and labs are hands-on and cannot be recreated outside of class time. Please vary the time of your child’s appointments to avoid repeatedly missing the same content. Nothing is more important or engaging as learning; we look forward to working with you to ensure your child is making the most of every minute of our day!

My child’s birthday is coming up! May I bring treats for a class party?

Yes! Celebrations will take place the last 10 minutes of the day. Please send individual treats from students that do not require cutting. All food products must be commercially produced and not homemade. Please be mindful of allergies and notify your child’s teacher at least 24 hours prior. Snacks can be dropped off in the office and will be distributed by your child’s teacher.

May I join my child for lunch?

We encourage social and emotional development among our students and feel that this happens best through peer interaction. 

What is the best way for me to communicate with my child’s teacher?

Our grade level teams use a variety of methods to communicate including e-mail, planners, Class Dojo app, and classroom phones. We truly value the time that we have to work with students during the day; please allow your child’s teacher 24 hours to respond to any communication. To protect instructional time, please do not contact your child’s teacher directly with any changes to dismissal or after school plans for the same day. If you have an urgent need, call the front office (972-749-7300). We are dedicated to our students’ success and spend our time in the mornings preparing for student arrival and our afternoons ensuring safe dismissal. As a result, if you would like to meet with your child’s teacher on campus, please schedule a time with the teacher in advance.

What is the dress code?

Our dress code is: white or navy blue top; and khaki, navy blue, black or LWE plaid bottom. See details HERE.

May my student bring a water bottle?

Yes! Students are encouraged to bring water bottles and keep them with them throughout the day. No spill/leak proof bottles are encouraged. 

Are meals offered at school?

Yes! Breakfast and lunch are offered daily and are FREE to ALL students, no application necessary.

School campus tours are provided from 4-5pm on the dates provided in THIS LINK.

How to get involved:

Between school and class activities, there are many volunteer opportunities throughout the year. All volunteers must register by completing the following steps:

1. Visit dallasias.voly.org and complete all the steps. Print out your confirmation letter and return it to Lakewood’s front office.
2. Email volunteer@lakewoodelementary.net if you would like to help in a certain area or find out immediate needs.
3. School volunteers are required to check in and out at the front desk.

Lakewood Elementary PTA

PTA’s goal is to provide Lakewood’s faculty, staff, and students with volunteer support and financial aid to help bridge the gap in resources not provided by the district, such as buses for field trips, science competitions, supplemental teaching materials, and an annual salary for a Teacher’s Assistant. 

Sight Based Decision Making Committee (SBDM)

SBDM committee advises the principal in establishing campus goals and plans for continuous improvement. The committee also serves as an advisory body responsible 

for the input and involvement in the decision-making process with the objective of improving

student performance and well-being. 

Lakewood Outdoor Learning Area (LOLA)

LOLA is an outdoor environmental science classroom and nature area adjacent to the school. It encompasses a small riparian area that runs along McCommas Branch, a tributary leading to White Rock Lake. Through a partnership with the Trinity River Audubon Center, students are provided with

a customized learning curriculum to strengthen science skills through hands on activities and projects.

Friends of Lakewood (FOL)

FOL is the Father’s organization associated with Lakewood Elementary. Our membership is comprised of dads that are dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of the students of Lakewood Elementary School. FOL engages the students in many different ways, including Math Maniacs, Math Olympiad, crossing guards, and Camp Lakewood.
