Message from Principal Thompson

Stallion Families,

It's been a great week filled with character as all our students dressed as their favorite TV, movie and book personalities! We loved seeing all the creative costumes.

We are also conducting MAP testing this week; we are proud of our smart Stallions and their dedication to excellence!

In addition, this week we received new guidance from the Texas Education Agency regarding notification of positive COVID-19 cases. Based upon the new guidance and language from TEA, staff and families of students in a classroom must be notified when a positive case arises. That means, in addition to the daily updates provided on the Dallas ISD COVID-19 Dashboard, teachers will be sending a letter should a positive case in your child’s homeroom occur. Personal information regarding the specific person testing positive must be kept confidential.

Our contact tracing protocols and notifications will remain the same. If it is determined that your child has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, you will be contacted by the nursing staff at Lakewood.

Student Activities / Clubs Update

This Fall, Lakewood will be limiting the extracurricular “clubs” to district-sponsored student activities only.

The Student Activities will include: Chess, Destination Imagination, Robotics, UIL, Lone Star Challenge, Choir, and Garden Club.

The Site-Based Decision Making Committee meeting is open to anyone who wants to attend. For access to the zoom link / dial-in information please email the SBDM President at sbdm@lakewoodelementary.net.

NWEA MAP Growth is an adaptive assessment used for measuring achievement and growth in K-12 math, reading, language usage, and science. This assessment provides teachers with accurate and actionable evidence to help target instruction for each student or groups of students, regardless of how far above or below they are from their grade level. It also connects to the largest set of instructional content providers, giving educators flexibility in curriculum choices.

4th Grade Campus Clean-up

This school year, a different grade will be asked to help with a campus clean-up each month and September will be our fourth graders!

Come help us on Sunday, September 26th from 4-5pm by picking up trash on the Lakewood campus so the school is sparkling clean. Trash bags and gloves will be provided.
