Dear Stallion Families,
This week at Lakewood Elementary, we are excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, embracing our district's theme, “Moving to the Rhythm of Progress". Together, we will honor the rich cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Please join us for our Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Thursday, October 3, from 5-7pm. The PTA’s Dual Language Committee, along with parent volunteers, have been instrumental in organizing exciting activities for students, food vendors, booths, and performances by the Woodrow Wilson High School Folklorico dance group and a mariachi band. It’s sure to be a wonderful community event!
Throughout the month, we’re also showcasing “I Am Hispanic”-themed displays in two areas of the school, where students can learn about influential Hispanic leaders who’ve made an impact in many areas of life. These displays are a fantastic way for our students to gain new insights and inspiration.
A special thank you to our parent volunteers and room reps who have been coming in to decorate doors and set up displays across the campus. Your efforts have truly brought an extra level of energy and spirit to our halls, and we are so grateful for your time and dedication.
Meanwhile, our teachers have been hard at work providing high-quality lessons, nurturing positive classroom environments, and setting high expectations for learning. They are building strong connections with students and ensuring that every day is meaningful for their academic and personal growth.
I’m also excited to welcome Ms. Freund, our new 4th grade teacher, to the Lakewood family! She has already made a great start in helping our students feel supported and engaged. Thank you for your patience as we continue refining our classrooms and learning environments across the campus to provide the best experience possible for all of our students.
Finally, as part of Education Go-Get-It week, we are thrilled to see the ways in which our students are making connections to higher education and exploring their future goals through various activities. The work happening in classrooms is already helping shape their aspirations!
Thank you again for your ongoing support and involvement.
One Team, One Dream!
