Dear Lakewood Elementary Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful week! I want to share a few important updates with you as we move forward into a strong and successful year together.

Lakewood Leadership Team:

After recent adjustments, I’m pleased to announce that Ms. Jade Flaherty will resume her role as Assistant Principal, overseeing Kindergarten, Second, and Fifth grades. This shift benefits both our Lakewood community and the greater Woodrow feeder pattern, as Ms. James will step into an Assistant Principal role at a neighboring campus in need of her expertise. We are grateful for Ms. James' contributions to Lakewood, and we wish her well in this new role within our network.

Ms. Flaherty is deeply committed to Lakewood for the long term. Over her seven years here, she has served in multiple roles including classroom teacher, GT teacher, Academic Coordinator, and now Assistant Principal. With a passion for creating an inclusive environment, she ensures each student feels valued and supported academically and socially. Ms. Flaherty has developed a strong dedication to building meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff. She looks forward to continuing this journey, coaching teachers, and fostering growth and success for all students with high quality instruction—especially as she anticipates her own two young boys to become future Stallions.

We know that transitions like these may bring some confusion, and we appreciate your patience as we work to provide clarity and stability. With Ms. Flaherty’s return, we’re refocusing on the strong, supportive environment we set out to build this year under our theme of “One Team, One Dream.” An updated contact chart is attached to help with any future questions or concerns as we streamline communication moving forward.

Thank you for your continued support and trust in our team to provide a stable, caring environment at Lakewood Elementary. With Ms. Flaherty’s dedication and leadership, we’re confident that Lakewood will continue to thrive, creating a positive and productive environment for all our students.

Important Health Updates from Nurse Kyker:

Attached is a notice for the spike in walking pneumonia, a visual for when to stay home, and a notice to turn in immunization records.

This is the time of year for giving thanks. With the holidays coming up, the Peace Pantry would like to help make it a festive holiday for our community.

Please help provide a complete Thanksgiving meal for our JL Long families in need. Sign up for your family to make a bag or sign up for multiple spots and do it as a group.

Volunteers will be in the front of JL Long to collect bags from 12:00-1:00 pm on Thursday, November 21st. If you can't make that time, you can deliver to the main office. Thank you so much for your help!

Lakewood Elementary invites you to join us in celebrating Día de los Muertos, a traditional Mexican holiday honoring the lives of passed loved ones.

We encourage students and staff to bring a framed 4x6 picture of a loved one who has passed away. These photos will be placed on our ofrenda (altar) to remember and celebrate those we’ve lost. Please write your student’s name and class section on the back of the photo.

This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and honor the memory of those who came before us. We look forward to seeing your contributions and sharing in this special tradition with you!

We are proud to honor Teddy Heape for his bravery and courage in his journey to fight medulloblastoma. This Lakewood kindergartener had brain surgery in December 2023, radiation in the spring of 2024, and recently completed chemotherapy a few weeks ago. He has 2 brothers that attend Lakewood - Henry in third grade, and twin brother George in kindergarten. His family has been a true inspiration and we are glad to support their fight!

On Friday, November 15th, please wear a blue shirt or a Team Teddy shirt to show our support as a whole school.

Get ready for a night of family fun at our upcoming Movie Night featuring the highly anticipated "Inside Out 2"!

Join us on November 15th at 6:00 PM for pizza, snacks, and popcorn before the movie begins at 6:30 PM. Thank you to our sponsor Skylar Champion Real Estate Group!
