Dear Lakewood Families,

I hope you all had a happy and restful Thanksgiving break with your loved ones! It’s hard to believe we’ve already entered December, and the end of the first semester is quickly approaching.

This week, our students are completing their middle-of-year (MOY) iReady testing. While we encountered some technical challenges along the way, our staff and students worked incredibly hard to navigate these hurdles and complete testing to the best of their ability. Their resilience and determination reflect the amazing spirit of our Lakewood community. We appreciate their efforts to ensure these assessments provide valuable insight into each student’s progress and areas of growth. In January, we will hold parent-teacher conferences to review your child’s results and set goals for the second half of the school year.
As we wrap up 2024, we are excited to celebrate the winter holidays with our students throughout this month. It’s always such a joyful time to reflect on the year and create lasting memories with our Lakewood family.  Please see the graphic below for important dates regarding winter break and classroom parties.

No matter the weather, Santa's sleigh is arriving as scheduled on Saturday!  We hope to still see all you poncho-wearing parade goers, but understand plans can change.  If that's you, please drop your unwrapped gifts at the Wendover Wonderland stop at LWE beginning at 12:00 pm on Saturday. Thank you!!

IMPORTANT UPDATE If your child will be absent the week of December 16-20, which is the GT testing week, please let us know by completing this google form. We will schedule your child's testing around their absence that week. Students who will be absent the entire week, will be tested the week of December 9-13th. 

If you missed the meeting last week, check out the slide deck here.  This was meeting was for families who are confirmed travelers for the 2025 5th Grade DC trip. Enrollment is closed, and at this time any new enrollees will be put on a waitlist. If parents are unsure if they registered, there is a list of confirmed travelers in the slide deck, or they can reach out to EFtours travel support at 888-333-9756,  to confirm their registration. Mrs. Nowakowski does not have access to parent/student accounts and only can see a list of who is confirmed through EFtours.

The Long Run starts and finishes at J.L. Long Middle School located at 6116 Reiger Avenue in Historic East Dallas. After the races, join runners, student groups, parents, families and community members for food, refreshments, and entertainment at one of the oldest and most established races in East Dallas.

The 1K Family Fun Run/Walk and the 5K Certified Run takes full advantage of the beautiful Santa Fe Trail s in Old East Dallas. Each entrant will receive a race t-shirt and dinner. In addition, awards will be given for the fastest runners in the various age categories.

The 27th Annual Long Run is the only fundraiser sponsored by the J.L. Long Middle School PTA. Proceeds are targeted to bridge critical gaps in the J.L. Long Middle School budget.
