Dear Lakewood Families,

As we step into February, a month filled with kindness, appreciation, and connection, we want to take a moment to celebrate the spirit of inclusion and love within our school community. Valentine’s Day serves as a wonderful reminder of the importance of showing care and respect for one another, not just on one day, but throughout the year.

At Lakewood, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student feels valued, included, and supported. This season of love is an opportunity to encourage our children to embrace kindness in all its forms—whether through a simple act of friendship, a thoughtful word, or a gesture that helps someone feel seen and appreciated.

As classrooms celebrate in various ways, we encourage families to reinforce the message that love and kindness go beyond cards and treats—they shine brightest in our everyday actions. Together, we can continue to build a school community where every child feels they belong.

Thank you for being part of our One Team, One Dream spirit and for helping us cultivate a culture of inclusion, kindness, and respect.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Principal Thompson

Kids Heart Challenge is coming to Lakewood Elementary!

From February 18th-28th, our students are learning how to take care of their hearts and bodies while making a tremendous impact on others with special hearts. They can also earn some really cool thank you gifts by raising funds for the American Heart Association! These funds advance research, community initiatives, public health education, and programs that support cardiovascular and neurological care in hospital systems. They also support Lakewood Elementary’s PE program through equipment and funding!

To get a head start, SIGN UP NOW on our school page or on the AHA schools app (iOS/Android).

We invite you to grab a sneak peek of our quacktastic Heart Hero Team to begin learning their messages and practice implementing their heart healthy habits!

Family Input Form for the '25-'26 School Year Class Assignments

As we begin the process of looking ahead to creating well balanced classes for the 2025-2026 school year, we would like to streamline input provided by families through this form.

Please know that we are not able to take specific teacher requests.

As we work through this process, we keep our Lakewood Vision at the forefront: We are a community of leaders, valued individuals and problem solvers, who advocate for all.  Note this will be viewed and analyzed by the current Lakewood Staff.  We ask that you refrain from any disparaging comments and remain focused on your student's needs.

This form will close at noon on Friday, February 21, 2025.

Please note the updated February testing dates

Lakewood is excited to celebrate Black History Month with our school community! This month is a meaningful time to recognize and honor the achievements, contributions, and rich history of Black individuals who have shaped our world. Throughout February, our school will be engaging students with special lessons and activities that highlight Black leaders, innovators, artists, and change-makers. Don't forget to check out the Black History Month Bulletin Board in the hallway leading to the cafeteria.

We invite you to celebrate as well! You can participate by: encouraging discussions at home about Black history and culture and reading books and sharing stories that highlight Black voices. Here are some books and resources:

On behalf of the Woodrow Wilson High School Athletic Booster, I am pleased to announce that we are launching an exciting new fundraiser that will help support our student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Woodrow Royale: Casino Night, will take place on Saturday,March 1, 2025, at the Granada Theatre.

The mission of the Booster is to invest in the success of our student-athletes, ensuring they shine in both competition and character. Woodrow Wilson High School supports 700 athletes, representing about 40 percent of the student body, with sports ranging from football, basketball, and volleyball to tennis, golf, and swimming. Our staff of coaches helps mold our students’ character by teaching them about commitment, overcoming adversity, and being positive team players. We believe these programs build confidence and self-esteem and instill life-long lessons that will carry our student-athletes through their adult lives.

As a public school in Dallas, Woodrow Wilson High School receives budgeted funds each year for our athletics programs. However, Woodrow is the largest athletic program in all of DISD, so these funds often fail to provide the much-needed facility improvements, uniforms, equipment, scholarships, and tournament fees our athletes and coaches deserve. Funds raised by the Booster, particularly those raised at this event, help to meet these needs. Our immediate goal for this year’s event is to raise funds for a new PA system for our school’s practice field so that we can run more efficient practices and raise the caliber of hosting our community events and games. Our long-term goal is to remodel our outdated weight room so our athletes have a safe and productive space to grow and train.

We can’t do it without you! The generosity of businesses and individuals in the community is crucial to our ability to raise these essential funds. Please consider sponsoring our event.

Sponsorship levels range from $500 to $10,000.  In appreciation for your donation, you and your organization will be recognized at the event on all print material, event signage, social media, the Athletic Booster newsletter, and the sponsor banner that will be hung in the competition gym and Winters Park outfield.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting the Woodrow Wilson Athletic Booster. We truly appreciate our supporters!

With sincere thanks,

Clara Sepulveda
