Good Afternoon Families,

As we prepare for the 2025-2026 school year, we kindly ask for your help with two important steps to support our planning efforts:

  1. Class Placement Input:

To create balanced and supportive classes for the upcoming year, we invite you to share input about your child through this form. While we cannot accommodate specific teacher requests, we will carefully consider the information provided to guide our decisions. As we go through this process, we remain grounded in our Lakewood Vision: We are a community of leaders, valued individuals, and problem solvers who advocate for all.

Please remember that current Lakewood staff will review the submissions, so we ask that comments stay focused on your child’s needs and avoid any negative language. The form will close at noon on Friday, February 21, 2025.

 2. Student Intent to Return:

To help us minimize disruptions caused by fall leveling and maintain balanced class sizes, we ask that you complete this intent-to-return form. We understand that family plans can shift due to private or choice school decisions, and your responses will help us plan proactively. Please submit the form by Friday, February 28, 2025.

Thank you for partnering with us in preparing for a successful school year ahead.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

Family Input form DUE TOMORROW! After you complete this form, please also complete the Intent to Return form by February 28!!
Family Input Form for the '25-'26 School Year Class Assignments

As we begin the process of looking ahead to creating well balanced classes for the 2025-2026 school year, we would like to streamline input provided by families through this form.

Please know that we are not able to take specific teacher requests.

As we work through this process, we keep our Lakewood Vision at the forefront: We are a community of leaders, valued individuals and problem solvers, who advocate for all.  Note this will be viewed and analyzed by the current Lakewood Staff.  We ask that you refrain from any disparaging comments and remain focused on your student's needs.

This form will close at noon on Friday, February 21, 2025.

***CRITICAL FEEDBACK NEEDED BY FEBRUARY 28***

To effectively plan for next year's class placements/sizes, please complete this form by February 28.  This information is critical for DISD to determine our teacher/staff needs.

If your plan may be changing based on choice or private school acceptance deadlines, please choose undecided.  We will follow up with you after spring break.  Thank you.

This is how many Intent Forms we are MISSING by grade.  Is one of these you? Help us get to ZERO across the board by February 28!

We need your help to make sure our school is staffed appropriately next year.

Thanks, Stallions!

Congratulations, Hazel & Victoria!

Join us in congratulating our 1st Place Spelling Bee Winner, Hazel Romines (5th Grade), and Runner-up, Victoria Hernandez (5th Grade)!  Hazel qualified to compete in the District Championship Spelling Bee which is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

DISD hosts the spelling bee every year through the reading department and 4th and 5th graders compete for the top two spellers in each class. The top two from each class then compete against each other with the winner moving on to the District Championship. If you have any questions, please reach out Ms. Nguyen, Mr. Reich, Ms. Allegro or Mrs. Hale, our spelling bee sponsors.

All labeled items will be returned to students' home rooms. Any items that are unlabeled and have been sitting in lost and found for over 2 months will be donated to Arms of Hope.  Please check in at the office during school hours to go look through Lost & Found in the Cafeteria.

Save the date for the next General PTA Meeting: March 25

Please plan to join in the auditorium on March 25 before the 4th Grade "Go West" performance. If you missed the last meeting, minutes can be found here.

The Woodrow Community Peace Pantry helps supplement meals/healthy snacks and provides uniforms/shoes for our DISD students in need and they need our HELP!

Drop off your food donations in the front lobby in your grade’s assigned box starting February 18 until February 28.

The grade that collects the most items will be awarded with a popsicle party!!

Lakewood is excited to celebrate Black History Month with our school community! This month is a meaningful time to recognize and honor the achievements, contributions, and rich history of Black individuals who have shaped our world. Throughout February, our school will be engaging students with special lessons and activities that highlight Black leaders, innovators, artists, and change-makers. Don't forget to check out the Black History Month Bulletin Board in the hallway leading to the cafeteria.

We invite you to celebrate as well! You can participate by: encouraging discussions at home about Black history and culture and reading books and sharing stories that highlight Black voices. Here are some books and resources:

We would love to have parent volunteers assist with LOLA!

In order to volunteer at LOLA (or any other DISD program) you must complete a volunteer application/orientation through VOLY every year.  https://dallasisd.voly.org/

Check in at the front office and meet Lisa Dolliver (Dallas Arboretum) in LOLA 5-10 minutes before your child's LOLA session starts for instruction. Volunteers may help with set up/clean up.

We know weather can be unpredictable.  Please check with your teacher for the most accurate information regarding LOLA classes during inclement weather.

SPONSOR WOODROW ROYALE
ATTEND WOODROW ROYALE

On behalf of the Woodrow Wilson High School Athletic Booster, I am pleased to announce that we are launching an exciting new fundraiser that will help support our student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Woodrow Royale: Casino Night, will take place on Saturday,March 1, 2025, at the Granada Theatre.

The mission of the Booster is to invest in the success of our student-athletes, ensuring they shine in both competition and character. Woodrow Wilson High School supports 700 athletes, representing about 40 percent of the student body, with sports ranging from football, basketball, and volleyball to tennis, golf, and swimming. Our staff of coaches helps mold our students’ character by teaching them about commitment, overcoming adversity, and being positive team players. We believe these programs build confidence and self-esteem and instill life-long lessons that will carry our student-athletes through their adult lives.

As a public school in Dallas, Woodrow Wilson High School receives budgeted funds each year for our athletics programs. However, Woodrow is the largest athletic program in all of DISD, so these funds often fail to provide the much-needed facility improvements, uniforms, equipment, scholarships, and tournament fees our athletes and coaches deserve. Funds raised by the Booster, particularly those raised at this event, help to meet these needs. Our immediate goal for this year’s event is to raise funds for a new PA system for our school’s practice field so that we can run more efficient practices and raise the caliber of hosting our community events and games. Our long-term goal is to remodel our outdated weight room so our athletes have a safe and productive space to grow and train.

We can’t do it without you! The generosity of businesses and individuals in the community is crucial to our ability to raise these essential funds. Please consider sponsoring our event.

Sponsorship levels range from $500 to $10,000.  In appreciation for your donation, you and your organization will be recognized at the event on all print material, event signage, social media, the Athletic Booster newsletter, and the sponsor banner that will be hung in the competition gym and Winters Park outfield.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting the Woodrow Wilson Athletic Booster. We truly appreciate our supporters!

With sincere thanks,

Clara Sepulveda
