Math Maniacs Olympiad is March 26!

Our Wednesday morning Math Maniacs classes are over for the year!  Thanks for making it a great year!

The Olympiad is scheduled for March 26.  It is the final and culminating event of the year for FOL's Math Maniacs.  It is an annual in-school math competition between students in each grade (excluding kindergarten).  It is competitive and CRAZY FUN!

This voluntary competition will be open to all students in 1st through 5th grade.  Please encourage your kids to participate (even if they did not attend Wednesday Math Maniacs classes).

Participating students will assemble in the cafeteria on March 26, one grade at a time.  FOL will then administer grade-level written tests to each child.

We will present awards at a ceremony during school in May.  Awards will go to the top 3 individual scorers at each grade level.  FOL will also award the best performing classes in each grade with a pizza party!

Please contact Chris Wyatt with questions.

Deadline to complete interest form is March 28.

Our Kids Heart Challenge program has come to a close and we are so grateful for your support and dedication!

A heartfelt thank you to our Lakewood Elementary families for your engagement and involvement in any way you were able! We are so grateful for what you have helped our community achieve and we are thrilled to share with you what all our students accomplished this year!

Together, we raised $57,305.42 of our $50,000.00 goal!

319 Families engaged in Kids Heart Challenge

81 Families learned Hands-Only CPR

66 Families completing Finn's Lifesaving Mission learning Hands-only CPR AND How to spot a Stroke

$57,305.42 were raised to support the American Heart Association

We are proud of our partnership with the American Heart Association, their impact affects us all, things like:

  • The tobacco buying age
  • Nutrition access
  • CPR Trainings
  • Congenital Heart Defect Research (1/100 babies are born with CHD!)
Attention Bus Riders:
SmartRide Transportation Card Program

Dear Lakewood Families,

The Dallas ISD Transportation Services team is committed to ensuring the safety of all students from the moment they board the school bus until they arrive at their destination.

We are excited to share that starting March 17, 2025, Dallas ISD will implement the SmartRide Transportation Card Program to enhance the safety of our bus riders. This initiative will provide all Dallas ISD elementary bus riders with a SmartRide card for daily use while riding the school bus.

Today, Lakewood Elementary distributed SmartRide cards and lanyards to students who ride the bus. Please ensure that the card is attached to your child’s backpack, as it is required for transportation to and from school.

Key Information About the SmartRide Card:

  • School buses will be equipped with card scanners.
  • Students will scan their card when boarding and exiting the bus by holding it on the scanner until it beeps.
  • The card will track important information, including your child's first and last name, date, time, bus number, stop location, and campus. This information will be sent to a secure database accessible only by Dallas ISD Student Transportation Services and you, the parent.

If your child did not receive a card today or loses/damages their card:

  • Students will still be allowed to ride the bus until they receive a replacement card.
  • To request a new card, please submit a request via the Let's Talk! platform here.

  • Newly enrolled students should visit the campus front office for assistance.

For more information, please refer to the flyer sent home with your child or click here.

If you have any questions about the SmartRide Program, please contact Dallas ISD Student Transportation Services at 972-925-4BUS (4287).

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe!
