Hi Lakewood Families –

As we roll into April, you’ll be seeing and hearing more about the House Party event and auction. This feels like a good time to share more about the origin of House Party, and how its proceeds are used by Lakewood!

Prior to serving as President, I co-chaired House Party, as well as LECPTA’s Auction Party, so I’m familiar with the ins and outs. Learn more below!

House Party Origin

Why is it called “House Party”? Good question. This event was founded in 2017 and was held at The Barley House for the first several years. It eventually outgrew the Barley House space, but has kept its “House Party” name and casual, good times essence!

Unlike LECPTA’s annual auction party in November, House Party is not themed. You can wear whatever you would any other Saturday night – be that jeans, sneakers, casual dresses, boots – whatever fits your personal style and is comfortable for you. No surfing required!! (But if you can shred, we wanna see it…)

Compared to LECPTA’s Auction Party, the House Party event was also designed with a more approachable price point. Tickets are available now for $65 (increases to $75 on April 1!).

Founded in Fundraising

Speaking of dollars… while on the outside, House Party is all good times and good vibes, the House Party auction is the single most important fundraiser for Lakewood Elementary. One hundred percent of proceeds benefit Lakewood PTA, and covers nearly half of our annual operating budget.

What expenses are in Lakewood PTA’s operating budget? Here are some examples! –

LOLA, Field Trips, Fall Fest carnival, Movie Night, Stallion Store, Theatre Program and Grade Level Performances, Rollerskating Program, Science Camp, SEEDs, Monthly Lunch for Staff, Art Supplies, Campus Beautification and Maintenance, Kindergarten Round Up, New Family Orientation, Garden, Best Buddies, DEI efforts, Teacher Classroom Credits, Dual Language, 5th Grade Graduation Party, Teacher Workroom, Boo Hoo Breakfast, Teacher Snack Cart, and more!!

So in the coming weeks, when asked to buy an event ticket, buy a raffle ticket, bid in the auction (coming April 21!), host a sign-up party, or donate an item to the auction, know that your contributions matter, and impact the Lakewood Elementary experience for students, staff and families.

Maybe you’ll win a golf cart in the raffle(!), maybe not, but you will definitely help us chip away at the $500K+/year it takes to provide the supplemental programming and enrichment listed above, which goes well beyond what the district provides.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Now, let’s bring on the High Fives and Good Vibes. Lakewood House Party is here!!!

What is SBDM?

The Site Based Decision Making (SBDM) Committee is composed of parents, community members, and teachers who advise the School Principal.

Our committees include facilities, safety/security, curriculum, accessibility, health and social emotional learning, and budget.  Committee members generally serve for two years in their role.

Additionally, as school related issues occur or school activities and initiatives evolve, the SBDM Committee may authorize a sub-committee to resolve the issue or implement the activity and initiative.

For the 2025-2026 school year, we are looking specifically for parents and community members to support facilities, curriculum, health and social emotional learning, accessibility and budget.

Meetings are held 4-5 times a year on a weekday evening at 5pm with a schedule for the year shared in August.

Questions? Reach out to Elizabeth Cheek at sbdm@lakewoodelementary.net.

Interested in joining? Complete this form by March 28th and plan to attend our meeting on April 10 at 5 pm.

Attention Bus Riders:
SmartRide Transportation Card Program

Dear Lakewood Families,

The Dallas ISD Transportation Services team is committed to ensuring the safety of all students from the moment they board the school bus until they arrive at their destination.

We are excited to share that starting March 17, 2025, Dallas ISD will implement the SmartRide Transportation Card Program to enhance the safety of our bus riders. This initiative will provide all Dallas ISD elementary bus riders with a SmartRide card for daily use while riding the school bus.

Today, Lakewood Elementary distributed SmartRide cards and lanyards to students who ride the bus. Please ensure that the card is attached to your child’s backpack, as it is required for transportation to and from school.

Key Information About the SmartRide Card:

  • School buses will be equipped with card scanners.
  • Students will scan their card when boarding and exiting the bus by holding it on the scanner until it beeps.
  • The card will track important information, including your child's first and last name, date, time, bus number, stop location, and campus. This information will be sent to a secure database accessible only by Dallas ISD Student Transportation Services and you, the parent.

If your child did not receive a card today or loses/damages their card:

  • Students will still be allowed to ride the bus until they receive a replacement card.
  • To request a new card, please submit a request via the Let's Talk! platform here.

  • Newly enrolled students should visit the campus front office for assistance.

For more information, please refer to the flyer sent home with your child or click here.

If you have any questions about the SmartRide Program, please contact Dallas ISD Student Transportation Services at 972-925-4BUS (4287).

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe!
